Pros

The high point of the unit is its surge/continuous power capabilities, which greatly exceeds the standard of residential backup power generators. Comments

  1. I own two Generac devices.

Like all Wisconsin-built equipment, they function forever, or at least as long as you’re kind and generous with the oil changes.

The first is a 1500 watt “Niagra” series with B&S Vanguard 6.5 HP OHV. The alternator was manufactured in 1980. It’s the second engine. It’s almost *too*easy to start. Pull the rope until it reaches the compression stroke, and a 6-inch tug start. It’s on the second engine, having worn saw commercial service for 15 years, then got a new engine. (Cylinders aren’t worth re-boring on such a small engine). After 35 years service, it’s still running strong.

It says “1500 watts” and it *MEANS* 1500 watts. It easily handles running 4 space heaters at 1500 watts each, for a minute, demonstrating a lengthy 25 percent surge. Dandy!

The second is only 22 years old, and its first engine is nearly broken in.
